Working at The George has been such a pleasure. The management team has done a great job of giving me opportunities in different parts of the hotel to explore opportunities for a future career. It also has given me a lot of networking opportunities which will be valuable for any future endeavors.
As an intern my main role was a front desk agent. In this role I answered phones, helped guests check in and check out. I also helped with anything the managers may need such as stocking the mini fridges on busy days and other various activities such as passing out amenities. The skills needed for this job are customer service, friendly personality, and fast paced learning mentality. Most of the computer system is taught on site so there is no need for prior knowledge.
The pay as an intern is $10 dollars an hour and in some cases guests will tip you. Interns and front-desk staff do not receive bonuses but in some cases managers will offer extra money if you pick up shifts and or stay later than scheduled.
Working at the hotel I gained a lot of experience in hospitality. The main things I learned or improved on were critical thinking and correct ways of speaking to guests. Friendliness is in my personality so this was not hard but learning the verbiage of a hotel and coming up with answers to questions took some time. I am forever grateful to have worked at this hotel and am looking forward to the possibility of a full time job at this company in the future.
